This is Jake Smith of Atlanta. He wants to be a big boy, but he still wears diapers.
One day when Jake was playing with John, he thought, "I don't want to wear diapers anymore. John doesn't wear a diaper, he wears underwear. It would be fun to play without having to stop to get my diaper changed."
So Jake asked Mommy, "Mommy, can I wear underwear like John?"
Mommy said, "If you want to wear underwear, you have to use a toilet like a big boy."
"Okay, Mommy, I promise," said Jake. "Can you take my diaper off now?"
"Not yet. First, we will buy underwear. Then I will teach you how to use the potty," Mommy said.
Jake was so happy when Mommy bought him the new potty and underwear, he rushed right out to show John.
John was happy too. Now Jake wouldn't have to stop playing just to go and get his diaper changed.
When Jake went inside, Mommy took off Jake's diaper and showed him how to step into his new underwear.
"Don't these look great! You look so big in your new underwear," Mommy said.
Jake thought sitting on the potty was easy because Mommy sat nearby.
As Jake sat there, he got nervous and said, "I can't, Mommy, I can't."
"Why don't I read a book to you, Jake?" Mommy asked. "Then maybe you will be able to use the potty like a big boy."
Just as Mommy finished reading the book, Jake went tinkle in his potty for the very first time. He was so happy!
"Very good, Jake!" said Mommy. Then she gave Jake a big hug and kiss. "I am so proud of you!"
Jake said, "I am so excited! I like growing up and learning new things."
But best of all, Jake likes hearing Mommy tell everyone, "No more diapers for Jake. He is a big boy now."
